Week 1 Blog post

I’m Luay, I’m Tunisian American but was born and raised in the UAE. I’m hoping to major in History and Political Science, although overall I’m definitely more interested in the former than the latter. If I had to pick a part of history that I like best or a focus of some kind then it would have to be faiths and religions throughout history. My non-academic interests are reading and playing volleyball; I’m hoping to get the chance to play pick-up or intramural this term or even in the future. I took APUSH and APWH in high school and thought that the amount of time dedicated to Native American or indigenous history as quite small. I had been expecting quite a bit more, at least in APUSH. I’ve heard iof native American affairs at times on the news and such, but those instances were far and few between.

  1. Hi Luay! Welcome to HIST 281! I’m glad your here and I look forward to your insights this term! I remember a very similar experience from my own APUSH days; the reality is that many high school curriculums face a continual problem of including certain topics over others. It’s a frustrating and ongoing structural problem, and I know many teachers feel the same way about curriculum expectations.

I look forward to seeing how you engage with the course material and contribute to our discussions!
