There There Part III

As the story “There There” unfolds, we learn how students become increasingly connected with each other. So far, all the characters will attend the Indian Pow Wow. Currently, there is a plot to rob the Pow Wow of its money, which is a lot of money. The main characters in this robbery are Ovrvil Red Feather, Tony Loneman, and Calvin Johnson. Although many characters are involved in this plot to rob the Pow Wow, many characters are going to the Pow Wow for work and personal reasons, such as Jacquie Red Feather, Edwin Black, and Dene.

A supporting character named Octavio Gomez, a massive drug dealer and criminal, orchestrated the robbing of the Pow Wow. He threatened Calvin Johnson to participate in the robbery. Octavio used Clavin’s massive debt against him, so Calvin, forced into helping them with the theft, acted as an insider for Octavio. Calvin meets Edwin Black, which is how many of these characters connect.

Although Octavio Gomez is a supporting character, we know that he connects with many of the main characters (especially the ones who are participating in the Pow Wow robbery). Octavia is a greedy man who seems to have a high value of monetary worth of things. He forces Calvin Johnson into the Pow Wow plot, even though he knows Calvin is trying to clean his life. Many supporting characters are tying the main characters together.

Another character that connects multiple characters is Harvey. Harvey is Edwin Black’s biological father. Harvey is filled with guilt, and he feels guilt over his violent past. He sobs and talks to Jacquie during an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting, admitting his own guilt over her raping her. He also talks about being a deadbeat father and all of the guilt of his violent past. He talks about Edwin Black, expressing his own fears and anxiety about meeting him. He connects Edwin Black and Jacquie by being Edwin’s biological father and having a child with Jacquie.

As a reader, it is interesting for many students to see how these characters are becoming more and more connected with each other. The story is becoming cohesive and interesting with a plot.
