U.S settlers fed into imperialism by forcing Native Americans out of their land. as they force native Americans out of their land, the settlers expanded their lands through wars and treaties. Treaties forced native americans to agree to give up some of the land they owned to the settlers and when those treaties were not followed and broken, it resulted into wars where settlers eventually took control of the land. another way imperialism played a role was by erasing Native American identity’s through boarding schools. The boarding schools were used to ‘civilize’ Native American children and force them to abandon their language, history and culture. Imperialism was even justified through the “white mans concept”. The settlers believed that native americans couldn’t take care of themselves therefore someone else had to civilize them/ take care of them which is why they believed stripping them from their identity’s were the best choice.
